2013 Disney Movies

On New Year’s I posted a recap of my favorite Disney movies in 2012.  There were so many great ones!  Next year will be no different: the line-up of releases that fall under the Disney umbrella are spectacular!  As each movie gets closer I’ll have more updates for you about each and hopefully some reviews, too!

I honestly can’t pick which one I’m most excited about.  Monsters University, Iron Man 3, and Thor are probably my top choices: we love the Marvel franchise and Monsters, Inc. is one of my favorite Disney movies so I’m excited for this “prequel”.  But Saving Mr. Banks is high on my list, too, as I love Disney history and I’m interested in the story of how Mr. Walt Disney brought Mary Poppins to the big screen.

How do you choose just one??

Lincoln Declares Thanksgiving A National Holiday

I think most folks know the story of the origins of our modern Thanksgiving.  And some might know that President George Washington declared November 26th, 1789 as a day to give thanks.  After that, celebrations of thankfulness continued, but no official holiday was named.

DreamWorks Pictures movie Lincoln - a Thanksgiving lesson

Then President Lincoln – in an attempt to foster a sense of unity between the northern and southern states – declared Thanksgiving a national holiday to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November.  (Roosevelt later came along and changed it to the fourth Thursday for economic reasons.  So I guess you can thank Lincoln for Thanksgiving, and Roosevelt for Black Friday.)

Learn more about Lincoln by hitting the theaters this weekend and catching the movie!  Consider taking your older kids with you for an interesting history lesson!

Are you an Avengers fan?

Our family is a group of huge Marvel movie fans.   We first fell in love with Iron Man a few years ago, and since then each installment of individual Avengers characters has lured us in more and more.  So it should be no surprise that the members of our household are all anxiously counting the days until next week’s release of The Avengers.  All of the Avengers together in one huge blockbuster?  It doesn’t get much better than that!

Marvel's The Avengers Graphic Novel #MarvelAvengersWMT

Both A1 and A2, as well as my husband and I, all had the chance to see The Avengers in the theater so we know it’s an amazing film.  Leaving the theater I remember both my husband and I commenting about how we couldn’t wait until it came out on DVD so that we could add it to our home library.  So that there was no chance on missing out, we were sure to pre-order a copy.  If you haven’t pre-ordered yours yet, it’s not too late!  Be sure to order from Walmart so you can get the exclusive Avengers Blu-Ray/DVD/Graphic Novel combo pack for $24.96!  Only 100,000 of the graphic novels were printed so it makes for a great collectible.  There are over 100 pages in it, as well.  We have a copy of it and the story, colors, and quality are all great. Disney’s Frankenweenie Monstrous Sweepstakes!

Tim Burton's Frankenweenie releases October 5th, 2012

Disney’s Frankenweenie opens next week on October 5th and I’m really excited.  I love Tim Burton movies and I have no doubt that this will be just as awesome as the rest of his films.  It’s the story about a boy and a dog – sounds pretty classic right?  But in Frankenweenie the young boy Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences.

Win a trip to Disneyland!

While you’re waiting for the film to hit the theaters check out the Frankenweenie Monstrous Sweepstakes!  One grand prize winner will receive a 4 day/3 night vacation for four to the Disneyland Resort and Disney California Adventure Park to experience the world of Tim Burton and Frankenweenie during Halloween time!  Five first prize winners will receive an autographed Frankenweenie movie poster.

You can enter here online or you can text EDGAR to Disney (347639) for a chance to win.  Message and data rates may apply.  If you’re under 18, get your parents permission first.
