Christmas is less than a month and a half away! Over the weekend we put up our tree, decorated the house, and baked some cookies. We also worked on some reindeer crafts, like a jingle bell reindeer necklace and cute DIY reindeer treat cups that look like Rudolph.
We still have a long list of Christmas crafts that we have planned including some photo ornaments and possibly a DIY advent calendar. But I wanted to share the tutorial for this easy mini clay pot Rudolph craft so you’d have time to pick up the clay pots.
You’ll probably have many of these supplies already on hand. For some of the items you might need to pick up I’ve included a few affiliate links to help you track them down.
DIY Reindeer Treat Cups
Supplies:
Mini clay pots
Craft glue
Small red pom poms
Googly eyes
Chenille stems
Brown acrylic paint
Paint brush
Tutorial:
- Paint each of the mini clay pots brown. Let dry.
- Use a dot of glue to attach a pair of googly eyes to each pot just below the ridge. Feel free to play around with the placement to find the “look” you like best.
- Attach one red pompom below the eyes towards the bottom of the pot to make Rudolph’s nose. If you wanted to create all of Santa’s reindeer you could use brown pompoms for the other noses.
- Prop up (if needed) to keep the nose from sliding off and let dry.
- Cut off 1/3 of a chenille stem. Fold the long piece in half.
- Cut the short piece of the chenille stem in four small pieces. Twist two of each small piece around each side of the folded stem to create the antlers.
- Using tape or glue attach the antlers to the inside front edge of the pot.
- Fill with Christmas candies or mints, if desired.
We started by using brown chenille stems for our antlers but then Bubbles asked if she could use one of the sparkly gold chenille stems. I ended up loving that look most of all, but you can feel free to use whatever color works for you.
These DIY reindeer treat cups come together really fast, maybe five minutes or so per cup. You could easily use brown pom poms, too, if you wanted to make all of Santa’s reindeer and not just Rudolph! Fill them with candy and they’d make cute classroom gifts, Christmas party decor, or place settings at your Christmas dinner.
