So, it’s March. And while March means lots of things – the onset of spring and my birthday, for example – it also means one other major event. College hoops tournament!
Now, here in Kentucky college basketball is a Really Big Deal. One of our colleges actually has the most wins over like the last five decades. People here live and breath it all season, but especially in March. Local businesses even close down and send employees home just to watch.
For me, it’s the perfect excuse to have friends and family over to watch the basketball games on TV. And because I love a theme, I’ve been putting together a few pizza party ideas to share with you all. Pizza is a convenient food to share with guests, plus it’s easy for everyone to eat while jumping up and down and cheering.
Basketball Serving Tray
I made an easy tray that looks like a basketball to serve pizza from. I have quite a few cake rounds made from cardboard that I picked up during a cake decorating class awhile back. I purchased a bit of orange material and covered it, then used a black marker to draw on basketball lines. If you don’t have a cake round, you could just as easily cut a circle from a cardboard box. Total I think I spent about $3 to make it; I love inexpensive items that make a party more festive.
Pizza Pick Pennants
I also created some pennants to print out and turn into pizza picks. These are just generic ones; you’re welcome to print them out and use them at your own party! Print them on adhesive-backed paper (to make instant-stickers) or just use a little glue or tape to seal them. You could also design your own team-specific for whatever basketball games you’re watching. I picked up the supplies for all my craft projects while I was at Walmart picking up the pizza. We love trying new varieties so I grabbed one of the new DiGiorno Stuffed Crust Buffalo Chicken Pizza as well as a DiGiorno Stuffed Crust Sausage, Peppers, and Onions Pizza. Bubbles of course wanted me to take her picture a half-dozen times while we were shopping; she’s quite the little posing queen.
Stuffed crust pizza is a favorite of mine (more cheese? Why yes, I think I will, thanks) but I’d never bought it from a store before. I’m glad we gave it a try, though, because it was delicious! Stringy, melty cheese in every bite, even the crust. My guests are going to be in for a real treat. Check out the Flavorful Moments site for more party ideas, too!
Love the little pennants! SO fun! #client
