At the start of 2013 I shared with you my favorite Disney movies of 2012. There were so many great new additions this past year that I wanted to share a 2013 Disney movies roundup with you. All of these movies – listed in chronological order – are can’t-miss and if you didn’t catch them at the theater or pick up DVD copies yet, you should plan to for this year.
Oz the Great and Powerful
Iron Man 3
It’s hard to go wrong when you’re talking about the Marvel universe. And while some movie franchises kind of limp their way into a third installment, Iron Man actually blows the doors off. We loved it so much I picked up the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray and DVD Combo pack for my husband as a stocking stuffer.
I can’t wait to see what’s next for Tony Stark and Pepper Pots, whether it’s a continuation of the Iron Man line up, the Avengers movies, or in another form. If your kiddo is a fan, too, check out my Iron Man 3 party ideas; they’re great for a birthday party or family movie night.
Monsters University
Planes
Disney’s Planes is also very near and dear to my heart, as well, as I had the chance to interview Director Klay Hall and Producer Traci Bathazor-Flynn. Additionally we learned to draw Dusty from Dan Abraham, Head of Story, and Art Hernandez, Story Artist and toured Disney Toon Studios. Read my Planes review for more info on why I loved the film.
Thor: The Dark World
The second Marvel movie of the year was Thor: The Dark World. I had the genuine pleasure of walking the red carpet at the historic El Capitan Theatre. I also had the opportunity to interview three of the cast members, including Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, and Zachary Levi.
You will be blown away by this movie, I promise. Read my Thor: The Dark World review, and then head over to Amazon to pre-order the Thor: The Dark World Blu-ray and DVD Combo pack, which is available on February 25th.
While in L.A. for the Thor: The Dark World red carpet, we also were able to walk the Delivery Man red carpet. While definitely sprinkled with comedic moments, this is not a traditional Vince Vaughn comedy. There were a few tears, and more than a few aww moments. If you haven’t already watched it, be sure to read my Delivery Man review. You may also want to check out my interviews with Vince Vaughn and Cobie Smulders and Chris Pratt.
Frozen may be my favorite animated movie in recent history. It’s honestly going to be a Disney classic. In my Disney Frozen review I share about the story of two sisters, which is something my daughter was really able to relate to. You’ll also be blown away by the soundtrack; Bubbles randomly starts singing “Let It Be” when we’re riding in the car.
I don’t watch a whole lot of movies… so I haven’t seen any of these! I do want to watch Monsters University at some point though
I heard the Delivery Man was actually good! When it comes on Redbox, I will have to check it out!! Have you seen the Internship? It was so funny!!
Delivery Man really was good! Different than most Vince Vaughn movies, for sure, but really heart-warming. And no, I don’t think I have watched the Internship yet – I’ll have to put it on my list!
I loved all the kids movies, especially Frozen. I never got around to seeing Thor and I am majorly disappointed by that, but it should be on Netflix soon. Iron Man 3 was awesome.
Disney had some really great movies out this year. My kids and I watched Frozen right before Thanksgiving, great girl time. I like Lone Ranger, don’t think it deserved the bad reviews.
I think we saw Monster’s Univ. 100 times!! My son adores Disney movies. Planes is a good one too.
I LOVED Thor: The Dark World and Iron Man 3 and Oz the Great and Powerful were great. The one that I’ve been dying to see though, and just haven’t been able to make it to the theaters yet, is Frozen. From the previews it doesn’t look that great but everyone I talk to is just RAVING about it.
You know, I agree about the previews. I think they just don’t have enough time in those few seconds to give you the grand sensation that the movie does. You’ll love it!
We still need to see the Planes movies. My son is looking forward to the 2014 line up.
Oh gosh, definitely see Planes. We honestly have not gone a single day without watching it since it arrived.
We just saw MU and loved it. Frozen is now one of my all-time favorite Disney movies! I want to see Delivery Man still though.
Frozen is probably in my Top 5 of animated movies. It was just that good. And do see Delivery Man – you’ll like it!
I think I was most excited for Frozen! My girls want to see that movie the most.
They will love it, Amy! So, SO good.
So many awesome, awesome titles this year. My daughter saw Frozen twice already and I think that may have been her favorite of the year. It was my second favorite..after Marvel of course.
2013 was a good year in movies for Disney. It was fun to check out your review of the year.
