I participated in this program on behalf of The Fred Rogers Company and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.
I don’t think that I’m alone in the fact that I grew up watching Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. It was a show I stopped to watch no matter what I was doing, one that I would specifically request if it wasn’t already switched on. Fortunately with such great values and lessons being modeled, my parents were happy to oblige me.
Sharing Mr. Rogers Neighborhood with my daughter is something I had hoped to do, and I was a little sad that I wouldn’t be able to do so. Then one day last fall I flipped over to PBS KIDS and saw something new: Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. It’s a new animated follow-up to the original Mr. Rogers Neighborhood and it instantly took me back to my childhood.
Recently I had the opportunity to talk with some of the folks behind Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and the new line of Daniel Tiger toys. It was awesome to see the enthusiasm and passion that they had for the original and how well they were able to carry over the storyline. If you look at the side-by-side of Mr. Rogers and Daniel Tiger you can easily spot the similarities.
Parents will see a lot of other similarities in the shows, too. Remember Trolley? He, of course, is back in the new show. As is Henrietta Pussycat (mom to new addition Katerina Kittycat), and Lady Elaine Fairchilde (mom to Miss Elaina). The entire royal family is also a part of the show: King Friday, Queen Sara, and Prince Tuesday, with the newest addition to the family, younger brother Prince Wednesday.
Daniel Tiger Toys
The line of Daniel Tiger toys is quite extensive. There are a number of plush toys, play sets, and figurines of all the neighborhood friends. And there’s also the toddler-size version of the iconic trolley.
We actually received a plush Daniel Tiger toy as well as the trolley and Bubbles has been playing with them frequently since they arrived. The little Daniel Tiger plush is so detailed, right down to the tiny hood on the back of his sweater. And the trolley has extra spots for other miniature figurines so Daniel’s friends can ride along, also.
We’ve been told that the Daniel Tiger toys are flying off the shelves, so be sure to visit your local Toys ‘R Us and pick up your favorites soon. Or jump online and make your selections there while you can. They’re definitely sure to please any toddler or Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood fan in your life.
