Looking for a great new cookbook?
After a summer of unusually high temperatures – we’re talking multiple weeks of 100+ degree weather – the recent signs of fall have been a welcome treat. We’ve even put on a hoodie a time or three over the past few days. It’s also nice to be able to play outside more with Bubbles and not worry about melting.
Growing up in Maine, fall meant harvest. It was hard work, and by dinnertime we were definitely hungry! Casseroles always hit the spot as they were filling and warmed you up. Now fall is a time for football, trips to the zoo, picking apples and pumpkins, and watching the leaves change color. Much less stressful activities but casseroles still fit the bill for each of them.
Gooseberry Patch has a wonderful new cookbook called 101 Cozy Casseroles and, as all the others I’ve owned, I love it. My husband is a fan of this one, also; I was flipping through it when it arrived and he asked me to pass it to him. Within five minutes he had a list of recipes he wanted us to try – always a good sign! One of the things I like best about each Gooseberry Patch cookbook is that most of the recipes included come from home cooks like you and I. This helps me know they’re family-approved and that my family is likely to enjoy them, too.
So far we’ve tried four recipes from the collection: Meatball Sub Casserole, Family-Favorite Corn Soufflé, Maggie’s Kickin’ King Ranch Chicken, and Pizza Potato Puff Casserole. I’ll be sharing the recipes for a couple of them with you in separate posts, but until then let me say the corn soufflé is definitely our favorite so far. Next on our list to try is the Scalloped Potatoes and Quick Beefy Bean & Biscuit Bake.
If you love cookbooks – I personally collect them, especially the Gooseberry Patch ones – then you’ll want this as an addition to your library. And if you just love yummy food, you’ll also want it! The 101 Cozy Casseroles cookbook retails for $14.95 (though it’s currently on sale for $10!).
