Homemade General Tso's Chicken

Ingredients
  • 3 T soy sauce
  • 3 T garlic hoison sauce
  • 3 T rice vinegar
  • 3 T ketchup
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp sesame oil
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 lb boneless chicken, cut into 1" pieces
  • 4 T cornstarch
  • 2 T olive oil
  • sesame seeds, optional
Instructions
  1. In a small bowl add cornstarch and chicken; toss to coat. Let sit 10 minutes to adhere.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a skillet over medium.
  3. Add chicken and cook 8 minutes, turning occasionally, until lightly browned and cooked through.
  4. In a medium sauce pot whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, hoison sauce, vinegar, ketchup, sesame oil, brown sugar, ground ginger and water. Bring to a boil, whisking constantly, and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Add browned chicken to the sauce and cook another 1-2 minutes, stirring to completely coat the chicken.
  6. Serve over white rice and top with sesame seeds, if desired.
